Signs of the Times
One of the most public demonstrations of legalistic church doctrines is the use of church signage. Legalism is the deadly anti-Christ philosophy that either outright says a person should or could please God through some action or the subtle comments that cause human beings to feel guilt or condemnation about not being "godly" or up to God's standards. It's our conviction that all human beings are already up to God's standard because Jesus was (and is). Any statement or doctrine that directs people toward his or her own responsibility regarding their relationship with God and away from the work of the cross of Christ is something that we believe must be exposed and responded to. And church signs are a great and fun way to point out these destructive positions.
So, here's how it works: simply e-mail or
snail-mail us an appropriate
picture of a sign and any comments you may have in response. And we will
post the best ones on this page.

Very subtle, but do they know the definition of
Grace?

the answer to the question posed by the Northwoods Assembly of God. "We're ALL going to Heaven because of Christ!"

OK, this is the same sign, front and back...
"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways"
On the other hand, they are right... There is no escape from God's
Love!

The Wages of Sin?
There will NEVER be a reduction in the wages of sin?
Guess Jesus didn't know what He was talking about when he
said, "It is finished!" ... And what about Rom
3:23, the GIFT of God being eternal life precisely because the
"wage" had been PAID IN FULL . . . I'm thinkin' of
stopping in this "church" to read the Bible to their
pastor!

Too Hot?
Of course the sign's insinuation
is that only way to God is through the church. So, you'd better
join to save your soul!
The other more subliminal suggestion implies that if you think
you're above needing church, this pride and arrogance will cost
you an eternity in hell.
Heaven help us - if God allowed eternal destiny to depend upon the
fickleness of our human pride. Then truly there would be few souls
in heaven! And if that is how God worked, shame on Him!
Mercifully, God has side-stepped all of the things that could
possibly interfere with our journey towards eternal life with Him,
and put all of our eggs in one basket, His Son Jesus Christ.
How fortunate we are to have such a wonderful Parent!

Must be a legalism camping spot.
Getting back to nature without the fun!

Well, that's one way to look at it. |

Give God
What's Right
We could agree with the message of this sign if what
they meant by "give God what's right" was all the credit,
honor, glory, responsibility, and praise for redemption and salvation.
However, what they are probably trying to do is to challenge the
passersby to respond and live by "God's law" and to "make
Jesus Christ your personal Lord and Savior". First of all, God's
law was abolished 2,000 years ago when it was nailed to the tree with
His Son. Now God's New Testament is written on the hearts and minds of
men and women, individually delivered and open to much interpretation.
So, what is "right" varies with each person and each
generation as influenced by the Holy Spirit. Secondly, JESUS IS
LORD. No one makes Him Lord. No where in the Bible does it ever say
"make or accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior". And
yet, it is bedrock theology with Evangelical Fundamentalism. Something
to contemplate. |
